Document Details : Title: El templo de Elefantina y las vestiduras cultuales en el ostracon Cairo EM 49624 Author(s): DÍEZ HERRERA, Pablo Antonio Journal: Biblica Volume: 104 Issue: 1 Date: 2023 Pages: 38-56 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.104.1.3291713 Abstract : We undertake the study of a brief bill, an ostracon, which refers to a robe left inside the Yahô Temple complex in Elephantine and to the people in charge of handling it. The ostracon is approximately dated to the first quarter of the 5th century BCE. Our purpose is to check the validity of Porten’s theory that a priest in the temple was in charge of the holy garments, and, in any case, to put forward an alternative. This will be based on the study of the presence of people dedicated to textile work in Assyrian and Babylonian temples. In addition, we will confront our text with other Elephantine ostraca regarding tunics. According to this, it will be inferred that the garment was not in the temple for a cultic function, but was the object of some type of work by craftsmen skilled in fabrics. |
