Document Details : Title: Faith and Sport, Called to Walk Together Author(s): PÉREZ DE CAMINO, Santiago Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 45 Issue: 3 Date: 2022 Pages: 291-303 DOI: 10.2143/LS.45.3.3291397 Abstract : In recent centuries, sport has received increasing attention from society, the media, the business community, and the financial world. It has also become a challenge for sport itself and its very identity, as these pressures affect the values and goals of sport. Faith and sport do not conflict, because they seek the same goal: the happiness of the human being. This is why the Catholic Church cares about sport and tries to help the world of sport not to forget to keep the person at the center of all of its activities. With the creation of the Office of Church and Sport in 2004, the Holy See seeks to give concrete steps in the relationship between faith and sport, collaborating with the IOC, the International Paralympic Committee, International Federations, etc., but also with many sports associations that work in the world of sports with a basis in Christian roots, to promote a more inclusive sport and to make sport a place of Christian commitment. |
