Document Details : Title: An Early Iron Age Bronze Zoomorphic Axe in Thrace Subtitle: A New Find from the South-Eastern Thracian Valley in the Light of Present Evidence Author(s): MINKOV, Petar , YORDANOV, Svetoslav , MARINOVA, Nikoleta Journal: Ancient West & East Volume: 21 Date: 2022 Pages: 255-271 DOI: 10.2143/AWE.21.0.3291148 Abstract : This papers focuses on a recently discovered bronze – a protome(?), conceivably of a bronze axe with protome on the heel from the Early Iron age. Our main purpose is to present the new find in the context of the research of these interesting objects in what is now Bulgaria during the 1st millennium BC. The methodology includes cataloguing existing analogous finds known from 19th-20th-century literature. The impact of the new discovery is considerable because of the great rarity of such items in conventional archaeological excavations. |
