Document Details : Title: Restituer la Velia Subtitle: Paysage urbain et histoire d'une colline de Rome Author(s): DI FAZIO, Clara , GRAZIAN, Andrea Journal: Latomus Volume: 81 Issue: 2 Date: 2022 Pages: 382-406 DOI: 10.2143/LAT.81.2.3291091 Abstract : This paper intends to retrace the long-term events that took place in the urban history of Velia, one of the most representative and historically qualified areas of the centre of ancient Rome. During the centuries, subsequent transformations have deeply affected the material and symbolic shape of this high significant city space. Starting from the reading of available archaeological and documentary data about the organisation of the urban landscape along the southern slopes of the hill, the contribution will analyse the phases of the great urban rebuilding actions on the Velia between the Republic and the Imperial age, several episodes of monumental reconstruction have profoundly marked the topographical structure of the area, altering its social, ideological, and urban functions. |
