Document Details : Title: Stones That Strike Down Giants Subtitle: Daniel and David in a New Light Author(s): MILÁN, Fernando Journal: Biblica Volume: 103 Issue: 2 Date: 2022 Pages: 186-212 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.103.2.3290911 Abstract : This study compares the scene in which a stone overthrows the statue in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream (Daniel 2) with the narrative of the battle between David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17). From different perspectives, both stories promote absolute trust in a God who saves his servants. Furthermore, the battle between David and Goliath has become a paradigm for uphill battles by those who are weak and ill-equipped against those who are strong and powerful. This struggle reverberates through various parts of the book of Daniel and relates to the theme of idolatry. Hence, a more extensive connection is proposed between the David and Goliath scene and the book of Daniel as a whole. This relationship falls under the category of internarrativity. |
