Document Details : Title: Eight Ways that Amoris Laetitia is Being Received and Promoted around the World Author(s): KEENAN, James F. Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 28 Issue: 1 Date: 2022 Pages: 4-17 DOI: 10.2143/INT.28.1.3290600 Abstract : Six years after its promulgation, Amoris Laetitia has prompted bishops and theologians to creatively receive its instruction. That reception has focused on its fidelity to the long-standing tradition as it tries to address long-standing challenges of the contemporary Catholic family. More significantly, all around the world we find bishops and theologians working together to implement, in their localities, appropriate responses of accompaniment. What we find is not only a creative response that develops worthy pastoral programs all across the globe but also a certain rethinking of the very notion of ministry particularly for the moral theologian. Therein we find the theologians more courageous in facing long-ignored issues of inequity, intolerance, and neglect. By the same token, while fewer bishops actually embrace the magisterial teaching, it becomes the theologians’ added task to remind the episcopacy of their own responsibility to receive collegially the teaching of the Bishop of Rome. |
