Document Details : Title: L'opuscule Ordre et canon des prières attribué à Grégoire de Narek Subtitle: Traduction et réflexions sur l'histoire du texte Author(s): MAHÉ, Jean-Pierre Journal: Revue des Études Arméniennes Volume: 40 Date: 2021 Pages: 65-84 DOI: 10.2143/REA.40.0.3290109 Abstract : The pamphlet Order and Canon of Prayers is generally attributed to Gregory of Narek in the manuscript tradition. Certain characteristic features argue in favour of this attribution, but others seem foreign to Gregory’s pen and even to the School of Narek. It is possible to hypothesise that this writing is a youthful work of Gregory’s, written at the request of a monk of Narek. Later, around 990, when Gregory compiled the Book of Lamentation, this first draft was set aside. Having fallen into disuse, the text was adopted by the monks of T’ełeneac’, who interpolated it to support, through the prestige of a great saint, the particular customs of their monastery. |
