Document Details : Title: Pensée politique et discipline chrétienne dans l'Ekthesis d'Agapet le Diacre et les Novelles de Justinien Author(s): NICOLINI, Vincent Journal: Byzantion Volume: 91 Date: 2021 Pages: 265-283 DOI: 10.2143/BYZ.91.0.3289884 Abstract : This article aims to find similarities in how different Christian texts, mainly the Ekthesis of Agapetus the Deacon, the Greater Rules of Basil of Caesarea and the On the Priesthood of John Chrysostom, conceive of the power and duties of the Christian leader. This comparison shows that, despite their different contexts and subject matter, these texts promote a similar pastoral conception of the role of the Christian leader. In the last part, the article demonstrates that this pastoral conception can also be found in the ideological discourse of the Novels of Justinian. |
