The interpretation of sacred texts however seems to be a hindrance in the relationship among people of different faiths. Some religions keep to their traditions and sacred texts with exclusive tendencies that pose a challenge to intra- and inter-religious dialogue. This paper explores the role of the interpretation of Judeo-Christian scriptures in promoting intra- and inter-religious dialogue for harmony and mutual co-existence among people of different faiths. Using the book of Jonah as a model, the paper demonstrates through narrative analysis how the interpretation of a sacred text could help promote intra- and inter-religious dialogue. It calls for a paradigm of interpretation of sacred texts that aims at bringing peace and harmony, rather than seeking to divide people of different religious and social backgrounds.
