Document Details : Title: Wie schreibt man die Philosophiegeschichte des Mittelalters? Subtitle: Anmerkungen mit besonderer Rücksicht auf den Grundriss der Geschichte der Philosophie Author(s): SPEER, Andreas Journal: Recherches de Théologie et Philosophie Médiévales Volume: 88 Issue: 1 Date: 2021 Pages: 283-311 DOI: 10.2143/RTPM.88.1.3289289 Abstract : Given the dynamic development of research in recent decades, how does one write the history of philosophy in the Middle Ages today? This question will be examined using the example of the Grundriss der Geschichte der Philosophie, which is considered an important reference work in the historiography of philosophy, at least in the German-speaking world. The starting point are the four volumes of the Grundriss published so far on that millennium which we call the Middle Ages in the classical periodization. These volumes on Byzantium and Judaism, philosophy in the Islamic world of the 8th-10th centuries, and the two double volumes on the 12th and 13th centuries of the Latin Middle Ages provide an insight into the different conceptual ideas on how to deal with the historiographical evaluation of this overall impressive project. |
