Document Details : Title: Warum es keinen 'byzantinischen Humanismus' gibt Author(s): KAPRIEV, Georgi Journal: Recherches de Théologie et Philosophie Médiévales Volume: 88 Issue: 1 Date: 2021 Pages: 189-207 DOI: 10.2143/RTPM.88.1.3289287 Abstract : The paper critically discusses the genesis and history of the term ‘Byzantine Humanism’, which was coined some 50 years ago. It shows that its derivation from the program of Italian Renaissance humanists is inadequate. Furthermore, the radicalization of the concept and its ideological abuse are commented on. Finally, the historical-philosophical counterproductivity of this misconstrued concept is highlighted. |
