By understanding Blumenberg’s work from the point of view of his use of anecdote and irony, elucidating his central term ‘reoccupation’ and singling out his provisional concept of reality, it is revealed how Blumenberg understands literature as the trailblazer of philosophy. Kafka then serves as an overall example of this intrinsic connection. That is, Kafka proves that philosophy, in its task of ‘defamiliarization’, can be guided by the experiences described in literary works. This shows that Blumenberg’s literary strategies, his attention to metaphor, his contribution to the debate on secularization and even his phenomenological and anthropological writings can be understood against the background of this radical connection between literature and philosophy. Thus, this critical analysis argues that already in his early writings on literature and art, Blumenberg himself — in accordance with his views — was far ahead of his own philosophical analyses. |
