Document Details : Title: Une nouvelle inscription rupestre latine d'Err (Pyrénées-Orientales) Author(s): FERRER I JANÉ, Joan , MONCUNILL, Noemí , VELAZA, Javier Journal: Latomus Volume: 79 Issue: 1 Date: 2020 Pages: 78-90 DOI: 10.2143/LAT.79.1.3287977 Abstract : We present a new edition of a Latin rock inscription from Cerdagne (Err, Pyrénées- Orientales). In the first sections of the paper, we provide an overview of the available epigraphic documentation of the region, which contains more than 150 rock inscriptions in Iberian language and script and a small group of Latin inscriptions. The edition of this new Latin inscription, which we interpret as a Christian text datable from the end of the 4th/5th century AD onwards, is all the more relevant since Latin inscriptions are very scarce in this region. Moreover, the religious content of the text supports the interpretation of these inscribed rocks as cultual places, probably from the Iberian period to modern times. |
