Document Details : Title: In Galliam ulteriorem contendit Subtitle: El ejército romano en el libro I de De bello Gallico de Julio César Author(s): SALAS SALGADO, Francisco Journal: Latomus Volume: 78 Issue: 4 Date: 2019 Pages: 1038-1054 DOI: 10.2143/LAT.78.4.3287641 Abstract : This article presents a detailed analysis of the nature and situation of the Roman army in Caesar’s De bello Gallico, book I. It examines fundamentally its composition, structure and tactics. It tries to show how the bellic theme could have conditioned the disposition of the first book, since describing its campaign required the inclusion of some specific elements and the removal of others. Through the analysis of this campaign the paper also aims at highlighting how the Roman army could adapt itself to particular contexts and environments. |
