The corpus at hand, which contains around one hundred epigraphic testimonies related to these professionals in the city of Rome, allows identifying thirty different nouns or phrases that could refer to them or their skill: margaritarius, gemmarius, cauator, signarius, insignitor, (gemmarum) scalptor/sculptor, gemmarius sculptor, chrysographia, crustarius, caelator, samiator, uascularius, anaglyptarius, excusor, tritor, (faber) argentarius, candelabrarius, aerarius, deaurator, inaurator, brattiarius, aurarius/aurifex, coronarius, segmentarius, stragularius, auriuestrix/aurinetrix, barbaricarius, anularius. |
