Document Details : Title: Remembrance and Imagination Subtitle: Fifty Years of Theology Programmes in English at the Faculty of Theology, KU Leuven Author(s): KELLY, James J. Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 42 Issue: 4 Date: 2019 Pages: 397-415 DOI: 10.2143/LS.42.4.3287165 Abstract : After a brief historical and personal biographical introduction this article details the contributions of a number of the professors whose courses inspired so many students, especially in foundational theology, during the early years of the Theology Programmes in English at the KU Leuven. These set a foundation for the Programmes’ future international success. The author further explores, more extensively, the thoughts of two of the leading luminaries in Foundational Theology during those early years namely, Professor Piet Fransen (1913-1983) and especially Professor Magister Jan H. Walgrave (1911-1986). Mindful of their accumulated insights, the Conclusion attempts to imaginatively build on these by proposing and developing a more experiential, relational and holistic paradigm for articulating today the perennial question of the relatedness between the flux of life in the world with its own value and meaning and the inherent desire within humanity to transcend mere transience. |
