Document Details : Title: Buiten de wereld geen heil Subtitle: Schillebeeckx en Butler over de beschadigde schepping en de verlossing Author(s): DUBOIS, Heather Journal: Tijdschrift voor Theologie Volume: 59 Issue: 4 Date: 2019 Pages: 372-390 DOI: 10.2143/TVT.59.4.3287124 Abstract : Salvation from God is mediated in and through existing, socio-material environments. The author explores this statement in terms of the current ecological crisis. First, she considers the role of humanity in Edward Schillebeeckx’s creation-based theology. Then, she draws upon Judith Butler’s theory on subject formation to better understand the power-laden, multi-dimensionality of human and non-human interdependence. While she affirms Schillebeeckx’s understanding of salvation as mediated through the goodness of creation despite social and personal sin, the stakes of his theology with the insight that the means of mediation are themselves ambivalent are underscored. |
