CXV (MGH PLMA I, p. 346), a titulus composed of sixteen hexameters describing scenes from Gen. 2:7-18:10. New observations are made on the Fortleben and indirect attestations of the poem. A revised text (which introduces an emendation at line 11) is provided, while the accompanying commentary deals with the main textual, thematic and iconographic aspects of the poem, which seems to represent a selection of scenes from an illuminated Pentateuch related to the 'Cotton Genesis' collection. Its composition should be placed in Tours, and the terminus ante quem of 860 A.D. probably replaced with the beginning of Fredegisus’ (804-834 A.D.) or Alcuin’s (796-804 A.D.) abbacy, which makes at least probable, though admittedly not certain, the attribution of the codex Bertinianus. |
