Document Details : Title: The Rhetorical Approach: A Better Method for Interpreting the Letters of Paul? Subtitle: Rom 1,18-3,20 as a Test Case Author(s): ALETTI, Jean-Noël Journal: Biblica Volume: 100 Issue: 1 Date: 2019 Pages: 105-116 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.100.1.3286052 Abstract : Rm 1,18‒3,20 does not have the primary goal of recalling that all humanity is under the power of sin, but that 'No human being will be justified in his sight by works of the law' (Rom 3,20 RSV). In this subsection, the issue at stake is God’s justice and retribution and not primarily the injustice of humanity. In doing so, Paul follows the models of his day, and exegesis becomes pertinent if it takes account of these models. |
