Document Details : Title: Alfabeto latino en soporte pétreo hallado en Augusta Emerita (Mérida, España) Author(s): DEL HOYO, Javier , PICADO PÉREZ, Yolanda , BUSTAMENTE-ÁLVAREZ, Macarena Journal: Latomus Volume: 77 Issue: 4 Date: 2018 Pages: 955-969 DOI: 10.2143/LAT.77.4.3285756 Abstract : In this paper, we present a Latin alphabet on marble, located in an archaeological excavation carried out in Augusta Emerita (Mérida, Spain), the capital of the ancient Lusitania. The interest of this finding lies not only in the good state of preservation of the object, but also in the fact that it is the first time that an alphabet is found in Mérida. After having analyzed the Mérida alphabet from an epigraphic, morphological and functional point of view, we provide a review of similar findings made in Hispania and other parts of the Roman Empire. |
