Document Details : Title: Over materiële, oorspronkelijke literatuur in de openbare ruimte Subtitle: Het hedendaagse stadsdichterschap en zijn visuele poëziedragers en -installaties, naar een gedicht van Joke van Leeuwen Author(s): VANASTEN, Stéphanie Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 59 Issue: 2-3 Date: 2017 Pages: 361-378 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.59.2.3285109 Abstract : City Poetry [stadsdichterschap], as it has shown a remarkable development since the 2000s in the Netherlands and Flanders, has stimulated creative and alternative material formats for original literature in the public sphere, beyond the boundaries of the traditional book. This article analyses a city poem written and visually designed in three distinctive formats by Joke van Leeuwen and graphic artist Bob Takes. We point out how this poetry art installation realizes a significant architectural relation to the text, its material form and medium, which influences the process of interpretation, calling for a more functional and visual reading. This specific case indicates a shared concept of authorship, a contribution to the democratisation of culture and to renewed reading attitudes of literary texts, less monomedial and focusing more on collectivity, mobility, coincidence and arbitrariness in the consumption of cultural goods. New ways of dealing with original material literary culture in the public space become visible for further research. |
