Document Details : Title: Rudolf Bultmanns Verständnis der Kirchengeschichte in Glauben und Verstehen Author(s): JASPERT, Bernd Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 94 Issue: 1 Date: 2018 Pages: 77-92 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.94.1.3281487 Abstract : Rudolf Bultmann’s understanding of history has been studied extensively, but his understanding of Church History is here examined for the first time. The Author, many years an 'adlatus' of Bultmann, concentrates his investigation on the collected essays in Glauben und Verstehen. He argues that Bultmann comprehended Church History as being part of general history, as he had learned it from his teachers Karl Müller, Adolf Harnack, and Wilhelm Herrmann. Therefore, in Bultmann’s opinion, Church History, as any other form of history writing, must be demythologized and interpreted existentially. He himself showed the way in some of its researches. |
