Document Details : Title: 'Jeszus, geef ons den vrede, want de oorlog is wreed' Subtitle: De verbeelding van Wereldoorlog I in de Vlaamse kinderliteratuur van het Interbellum Author(s): VAN COILLIE, Jan , VAN ETTERBEECK, Myrthel Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 59 Issue: 1 Date: 2017 Pages: 35-64 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.59.1.3259729 Abstract : Due to the centennial there is renewed attention for the Belgian literature of World War One. The children’s literature on this subject, however, is unexplored territory. This study collected, to the extent possible, an exhaustive corpus of Flemish juvenile war fiction written both during the war and in the interwar period. The article explores on the one hand the dominant representations of war within this corpus and on the other hand it uncovers how this image of war is influenced by the fact that children (and not adults) are the intended audience. |
