Document Details : Title: On the Deep Structure of World-Experiencing Life Author(s): BEHNKE, Elizabeth A. Journal: Etudes phénoménologiques - Phenomenological Studies Volume: 2 Date: 2018 Pages: 21-45 DOI: 10.2143/EPH.2.0.3254112 Abstract : This investigation focuses on some of Husserl’s findings concerning the deep structure of world-experiencing life by identifying three main ways he uses the term Durchgang: a particular type of transition in which a current fulfillment simultaneously opens further horizons; a particular type of transparency in which the event of affection furnishes us with the moments-through-which the appearing appears; and a particular type of efficacy in which constitutive kinaesthetic performances function as the means-through-which their correlates are achieved. I use some lesser-known Husserlian strategies (a reduction of language and a hyletic-kinaesthetic reduction) and flesh out the account with descriptions of gleams and shadows on the one hand and capability-consciousness on the other, concluding by indicating the relevance of Husserl’s turn to Durchgang-structures for his project as a whole. |
