Document Details : Title: The Translation of 1 Cor 7:14c and the Labile Social Body of the Pauline Church Author(s): VAAGE, Leif E. Journal: Revue Biblique Volume: 116 Issue: 4 Date: 2009 Pages: 557-571 DOI: 10.2143/RBI.116.4.3206424 Abstract : The first two sections of this article argue that the first half of 1Cor 7:14c should be translated as a complementary, if contradictory, pair of factual affirmations: 'Since therefore your children are unclean, but now are holy'. The final section then shows how such a statement coheres completely with Paul’s paradoxical language elsewhere about the labile social body of 'the new creation' that was the early Christian church 'in Christ'. |
