Document Details : Title: De invloed van Edward Schillebeeckx Subtitle: De dissertaties over zijn werk Author(s): SCHREITER, Robert Journal: Tijdschrift voor Theologie Volume: 50 Issue: 1 Date: 2010 Pages: 153-165 DOI: 10.2143/TVT.50.1.3203432 Abstract : This article looks at the influence of the theology of Edward Schillebeeckx through the lens of the dissertations that have been written on his work. Some eighty-two dissertations were presented between 1971 and 2009. What is notable is that there has been a steady flow of such works over the past two and a half decades. This suggests that, even though many of Schillebeeckx’s works are out of print in major languages, there is an enduring interest in his work among scholars and succeeding generations of students. Forty-nine percent of the dissertations in this period were produced in Europe, with the largest amount appearing in Rome. Forty-five percent were produced in North America, with thirty-eight percent of all dissertations from this period coming from the United States. This would point to the continuing relevance of his thought especially in US society. Not surprisingly, the themes most often treated are the ones most associated with Schillebeeckx’s name: Christology, method, experience, and suffering. His work has been treated comparatively with nearly thirty other theologians and thinkers. The author concludes with some reflections on what all of this points to as regarding Schillebeeckx’s enduring significance. |
