Document Details : Title: Secularisme als exorcisme Author(s): SCHINKEL, Willem Journal: Tijdschrift voor Theologie Volume: 51 Issue: 4 Date: 2011 Pages: 341-350 DOI: 10.2143/TVT.51.4.3203394 Abstract : This essay offers a sociological analysis of the problems the secular world has with religion’s visibility in the public domain. It does this via a theological reflection on the role of the body in secular public space, using the headscarf issue as a case in point. It shows how this reduces religion to superficiality while continuing to view it as a deeply rooted and dangerous manifestation. In this way, secularism operates as a kind of exorcism, a view that this essay throws open to discussion. |
