Document Details : Title: Het analytisch-filosofische debat over het bestaan van God Subtitle: Een terugblik en vooruitblik Author(s): PEELS, Rik Journal: Tijdschrift voor Theologie Volume: 53 Issue: 2 Date: 2013 Pages: 155-161 DOI: 10.2143/TVT.53.2.3203317 Abstract : This article looks back at the discussion in the preceding articles on Herman Philipse’s God in the Age of Science? First, it is argued that discussions like these are valuable for at least three reasons: (a) there are important developments and shifts in these debates, because of the arguments put forward, (b) some theists become atheists and some atheists become theists, and (c) due to popular books and public debates, these arguments have come to be accessible to a wider audience. Also, there are apologetic and missionary motives for engaging in these debates. Second, the author outlines what he sees as the future of this discussion: it is to be expected that empirical scientific research will play an increasingly important role and that the split between adherents of Reformed Epistemology and those of natural theology will largely disappear. |
