Document Details : Title: Le Tigre et l’Euphrate en Benjamin Author(s): BEAUDRY, Marcel , NODET, Étienne Journal: Biblica Volume: 79 Issue: 1 Date: 1998 Pages: 97-102 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.79.1.3200607 Abstract : This is a study of the origin of the names of two places to the north-east of Jerusalem: wādy 'n-Nimr (w. of the leopard) and wādy 'l-Ġazal (w. of the gazelles). Basing themselves on biblical texts, rabbinic interpretations and the writings of Flavius Josephus the authors suggest seeing these two names as a transposition of the names of the rivers Tigris and Euphrates to the territory of the tribe of Benjamin. |
