Document Details : Title: 'Trembled Like Him' Subtitle: Reassessment of 1 Sam 13,7b Author(s): JOO, Samantha Journal: Biblica Volume: 91 Issue: 3 Date: 2010 Pages: 433-440 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.91.3.3188877 Abstract : Commentaries and translations have traditionally translated the preposition, אחר, in 1 Sam 13,7b (העם חרדו אחריו) as either modifying the subject or indicating the 'back' of Saul. However, the preposition is better explained as 'following and imitating' so that the army trembled like Saul. Since Saul was afraid of the Philistines, his fear infects the army, which scatters from him. Therefore, Saul, according to the Davidic court historian, is an ineffective military leader. |
