Document Details : Title: Double Phenomenology Author(s): GALLAGHER, Shaun Journal: Etudes phénoménologiques - Phenomenological Studies Volume: 1 Date: 2017 Pages: 29-44 DOI: 10.2143/EPH.1.0.3188841 Abstract : A discussion between phenomenologists and analytic philosophers of mind that took place in 1958 reveals some hidden connections between these two approaches to studying the mind. I argue that we can find two complementary phenomenological methods within this discussion – one that follows along the line of Husserl and Merleau-Ponty, the other that follows the kind of analysis of speech-acts, avowals and 'unstudied speech', proposed by Ryle and Austin. |
