Document Details : Title: Was hat Zachäus geantwortet? (Lk 19,8) Author(s): TICHÝ, Ladislav Journal: Biblica Volume: 92 Issue: 1 Date: 2011 Pages: 21-38 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.92.1.3188793 Abstract : The present tense forms δίδωμι and παραδίδωμι in Lk 19,8 are mostly considered as futuristic. Another view interprets them as iterative or customary. In order to discover their right meaning one has to pay attention to signals in the immediate context. The strongest signal is the expression τὰ ὑπάρχοντα, which must mean 'possessions' or 'property'. Already from this term the first readers/hearers must have concluded that Zacchaeus wanted to make a decision concerning his future life. Other signals in the context (including the form δίδωμι itself used in last wills) confirm this interpretation. |
