Jahrhundert Author(s): WALBINER, Carsten-Michael Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 114 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2001 Pages: 437-455 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.114.3.317 Abstract : The Georgian Church was founded by the Patriarch of Antiochia, according to the tradition. Is this myth or realty? From the tenth to the twelfth century AD the relations between the Greek-Orthodox church of Antiochia and the Georgian Church were very close. The situation changed because of the Mamlukensultan Baibars (1268) who conquered Antiochia and destroyed many churches and convents. Later on the contacts were renewed. In the fourteenth century the Georgian unity was theatened by the attacks of the Mongols. This article deals about the later evolutions of the Georgian church. |
