Document Details : Title: Isaac Newton's Latin Notes on Fourth-Century Ecclesiastical History in the Bodmer Manuscript (Of the Church) Author(s): TORIBIO PÉREZ, Pablo Journal: Lias Volume: 42 Issue: 2 Date: 2015 Pages: 121-133 DOI: 10.2143/LIAS.42.2.3141803 Abstract : In this paper I point out the existence of a number of Latin notes in the final section of Newton’s manuscript Of the Church (1710s), held at the Fondation Martin Bodmer (Geneva). These notes are related to his earlier writings on Church History (1680s) and concern the fourth-century ‘Arian’ controversy. This distinction is relevant for the study of Newton’s theological views on a number of issues, such as his perception of ancient sects and ‘heresies’ or the evolution of his Christology. This article provides a commented critical edition of the notes. |
