Document Details : Title: Policy toward Religion, State Support, and Interreligious Dialogue Subtitle: The Case of Norway Author(s): LEIRVIK, Oddbjørn Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 25 Issue: 1 Date: 2015-06-30 Pages: 92-108 DOI: 10.2143/SID.25.1.3112883 Abstract : In this article, the author discusses recent developments in Norway’s policy toward religion, in particular the system of state support for faith communities and possible restrictions on such support. The article focuses on the consensual cue of ‘An Actively Supportive Policy toward Religion’ which, during the last decade, has become the main framework for discussions about the state’s involvement in the religious field. The question of possible value-based restrictions on receiving financial support from the state is discussed with a view to the situation of ‘minorities within the minorities’. Finally, recent political discussions are compared with recent developments in Christian-Muslim dialogue and a joint concern for vulnerable groups which might seem to be confluent with important elements of the state’s value-based policy. |
