Document Details : Title: Muški Revisited Author(s): GRACE, Cecily Journal: Ancient West & East Volume: 14 Date: 2015 Pages: 23-49 DOI: 10.2143/AWE.14.0.3108187 Abstract : Assyrian literary sources from the reign of Sargon II frequently refer to King Mitâ of Muški. Mitâ has been identified as King Midas of Phrygia, due to evidence suggesting these kings reigned at the same time, in the same geographical region. While the Mitâ/Midas identification is widely accepted, conflicting evidence about the locations of Muški and Phrygia has precluded a conclusive understanding of the link between the two kingdoms. Evidence for the locations of Muški and Phrygia will here be reconsidered and a new interpretation of the connection between the kingdoms during the late 8th century BC is offered. |
