Document Details : Title: Narrative Signification and the Paschal Mystery Subtitle: Liturgy, Participation, and Hermeneutics Author(s): STOSUR, David A. Journal: Questions Liturgiques/Studies in Liturgy Volume: 96 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2015 Pages: 41-63 DOI: 10.2143/QL.96.1.3092401 Abstract : This article attempts to deepen understanding of the workings of Christian liturgy by attending to the way its narrative features can engage its practitioners. It is in part an exercise in liturgical hermeneutics in two senses, both as a hermeneutics of liturgy and in considering liturgical activity itself to be a hermeneutics of human life. The author investigates connections among Karl Rahner’s concept of 'the liturgy of the world', Stephen Crites’ concern with narrative theology, and Mark Searle’s understanding of liturgical participation. He then highlights ideas in the narrative thought of Paul Ricoeur, in particular Ricoeur’s notion of a threefold mimesis, and draws out the implications of adopting such a narrative approach to liturgical understanding. |
