Document Details : Title: Lichamen, lichaamstaal en zintuiglijke waarnemingen in 'Het gelag bij Pholos' van Karel van de Woestijne Author(s): LAMBRECHT, Bram Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 57 Issue: 2 Date: 2015 Pages: 153-176 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.57.2.3085157 Abstract : Inspired by recent cultural-historical research, literary scholars have become increasingly aware of the importance of the senses, bodies and body language in narratives. This article draws upon this recently developed literary theory. It offers a close reading of Karel van de Woestijne’s poem ‘Het gelag bij Pholos’ by means of Sabine Schlickers’, François Jost’s and William Nelles’ narratological vocabulary for the analysis of sensory perceptions and by means of Barbara Korte’s model for the study of body language in literature. This analysis of sensual and corporal motives not only helps to take a close look at the characters and the narratological techniques in Van de Woestijne’s poem but also highlights the openness of the text and its characters to several interpretations. |
