Document Details : Title: Melodic Patterns in Símákonde Author(s): MANUS, Sophie Journal: Africana Linguistica Volume: 20 Date: 2014 Pages: 263-276 DOI: 10.2143/AL.20.0.3062072 Abstract : There are two distinct stem melodic patterns in Símákonde disjoint verb forms: penultimate melodies (H, L, LH and LHL) and a (macro)stem-initial melodic high that is assigned to the left edge of the stem or of the macrostem. Tone doubling occurs only within the stem, but not on the penult. In a few tenses, the subject marker has a high tone that is realized on the subject marker and undergoes unbounded spreading to the following syllables of the pre-stem. |
