Document Details : Title: Unwrapping the Gift Subtitle: Surveying Contemplatio in the Tradition Author(s): DEPRINZIO, Kevin M. Journal: Studies in Spirituality Volume: 24 Date: 2014 Pages: 119-142 DOI: 10.2143/SIS.24.0.3053493 Abstract : The word contemplation has regained popular usage of late, but the richness of its meaning is far too often lacking. This article examines its nuances used throughout the Judeo-Christian tradition with particular attention paid to the contributions of Evagrius of Pontus, John Cassian, Gregory of Nyssa, Augustine of Hippo, Bernard of Clairvaux, and Catherine of Siena, and argues for a deeper contemporary retrieval. |
