Document Details : Title: Spirituality and the Search for a Triple Unity Subtitle: Disciplinarity, Intra-Disciplinarity, and Inter-Disciplinarity Author(s): ZAS FRIZ DE COL, Rossano Journal: Studies in Spirituality Volume: 24 Date: 2014 Pages: 1-23 DOI: 10.2143/SIS.24.0.3053489 Abstract : This article has a three-fold goal. First, it offers a ‘minimum’ definition of spirituality that clarifies the concepts of experience and lived experience so as to establish their close connection to transformation. In doing so, a ‘minimum’ definition of both spirituality and of spiritual theology, the discipline that deals with the lived experience of inner transformation, will be achieved. Second, this definition will be used in connection to the non-theological disciplines, not only to establish criteria for interdisciplinary dialogue, but also, following the recent work of Kees Waaijman, to guide the interdisciplinary approach of spirituality. Third, these first two goals will pave the way to show how spirituality is a discipline that requires a method that, without excluding faith, is not the same as traditional theological disciplines. In this way, spirituality in general, and Christian spirituality in particular, will acquire a theoretical framework with its own clear identity, surpassing unbalanced approaches and allowing us to speak of a true pluralism of theological method. |
