Subtitle: A Sideways Glance from the Perspective of Protestant Religious Education Author(s): SASS, Marcell Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 24 Issue: 1 Date: 2014 Pages: 94-103 DOI: 10.2143/SID.24.1.3040784 Abstract : Denominational religious education in Germany faces several challenges caused by a growing number of multireligious settings in public schools. The fundamental changes in Germany’s current religious culture have evoked new approaches in 'Interreligious Learning', especially in dialogue with Islamic religious instruction. This article asks if Protestant practical theology can benefit from the idea of a comparative theology that essentially arises from Catholic theological stimulae. By using the specific Protestant distinction between faith, religion, and theology, the underlying principles of comparative theology as an inside perspective of Christian faith are investigated and distinguished from other interreligious approaches. Then, this Protestant distinction focuses on multireligious school assemblies in order to formulate some practical and empirically based questions regarding the benefits and limitations of a comparative theology as well as to answer the question if comparative theology is Catholic? |
