This interest would complement a highly original engagement with mysticism in the early part of the twentieth century at the French university. In reaction to the emerging discussions, the philosopher from Aix would present a number of critical commentaries and studies that outline, on the one hand, the role of reason in the mystical life and, on the other, the contribution of the mystical to human intelligence. These discussions will have a major impact on the formal structure of Blondel’s later philosophy. |
