Document Details : Title: Prayer to Jesus in the Canonical and in the Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles Author(s): PASCHKE, Boris Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 89 Issue: 1 Date: 2013 Pages: 49-71 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.89.1.2985322 Abstract : This article studies the textual, structural/narrative, and thematic parallels between Stephen’s prayer to Jesus in Acts 7,59-60 and the prayers to Jesus found in the five major Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles from the second and third centuries C.E. On the basis of these parallels and in comparison with prayers to Jesus found in (1) the rest of the New Testament, (2) the respective other four Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles, and (3) the Acts of the Christian Martyrs it is argued that Acts 7,59-60 is the most probable literary background of the prayers to Jesus in the Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles. |
