Document Details : Title: Kəpurtə d Atalja - Ellat puratti Subtitle: A Rare Syntactic Construction in Modern Syriac and Akkadian Author(s): GAI, Amikam Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 126 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2013 Pages: 21-28 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.126.1.2983532 Abstract : In Modern Syriac one finds a construction of an adjective subordinating a substantive (by the nota genitivi d) – 'kəpurtə d Atalja', ‘the unbeliever (of) Athaliah’. This construction is used when it is the adjective that has the main informative value of the collocation. As for the subordinated substantives, they are limited to proper nouns or substantives conveying human beings alone. This construction is rare, even very rare. In Akkadian one finds the same construction with the same function and with the same puzzling limitation, very rare as well – 'ellat puratti', ‘pure (of) Euphrates’. This construction is found also in languages influenced – directly or indirectly – by Akkadian. |
