Document Details : Title: Nergal and the Babylonian Cyclops Author(s): GEORGE, A.R. Journal: Bibliotheca Orientalis Volume: 69 Issue: 5-6 Date: 2012 Pages: 421-425 DOI: 10.2143/BIOR.69.5.2967224 Abstract : The cyclops or monoculus is not a regular feature of ancient Mesopotamian art. Isolated examples occur in scenes with wild animals on third-millennium cylinder seals. The most prominent example, however, appears on an early second-millennium clay plaque from the Larsa-period Sîn temple in Khafaje (Khafajah), ancient Tutub on the Diyala river just east of Baghdad. |
