Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 22 Issue: 2 Date: 2012 Pages: 170-185 DOI: 10.2143/SID.22.2.2965151 Abstract : The intent of this comparative theological project is to begin the process of developing a systematic theology of divine incarnation for the Vedānta tradition of Sri Ramakrishna, in dialogue with Christian theology. The article itself does not develop this theology fully, but begins the process of outlining the issues with which such a theology will engage. One distinctive feature of this project is that it is pursued from a Hindu perspective that is engaged in a dialogue with Christianity, rather than from a Christian perspective. Issues with which this project will engage include the epistemic question of the recognition of an avatār, or divine incarnation, the interpretation of scriptural proclamations by putative divine incarnations that appear to endorse an exclusivist model of salvation, and the idea of a singular divine being with multiple incarnations. |
