The two churches are moving further apart. Recent developments are measured against the report ARCIC II. The Anglican teachings about the sacramentality of marriage have reached an impasse. Meanwhile the pastoral problems raised by cohabitation and same-sex relations, and the ecclesial problems raised by the ordination of partnered gay men, and women, to the episcopate, have placed new problems on the agenda of disagreements. In these circumstances the author believes that it is difficult to see what ARCIC III can achieve. |
