Document Details : Title: Marriage and Pastoral Problems from an Anglican Perspective Author(s): THATCHER, Adrian Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 18 Issue: 1 Date: 2012 Pages: 26-32 DOI: 10.2143/INT.18.1.2164159 Abstract : In relation to the 'pastoral problems and opportunities' surrounding Anglican and Roman Catholic teaching about marriage, the author argues that ecumenism has gone into reverse. The two churches are moving further apart. Recent developments are measured against the report ARCIC II. The Anglican teachings about the sacramentality of marriage have reached an impasse. Meanwhile the pastoral problems raised by cohabitation and same-sex relations, and the ecclesial problems raised by the ordination of partnered gay men, and women, to the episcopate, have placed new problems on the agenda of disagreements. In these circumstances the author believes that it is difficult to see what ARCIC III can achieve. |
