Document Details : Title: Newman, A Passionate Seeker of God Author(s): MORRONE, Fortunato Journal: Louvain Studies Volume: 35 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2011 Pages: 235-248 DOI: 10.2143/LS.35.3.2157495 Abstract : Taught in the school of the Fathers, Newman, throughout his life, understood how to conjoin, in the light of faith, interior and intellectual honesty with ready docility to the strong and persuasive call of the truth, revealing itself to his sharp and penetrating eyes in the countenance of Jesus. His theological and philosophical reflections, his commitment to the founding of the Oratory, his clear and persuasive preaching, his reflections on university life, and his pastoral ministry are best seen as so many aspects of his lifelong concern to communicate the Gospel. His appeal to the heart and to conscience enabled Newman to establish a critical dialogue with modernity and continues to constitute a very relevant instrument of evangelization. |
