Document Details : Title: Ahura Mazda or Shapur II? Subtitle: A Note on Taq-i Bustan I, the Investiture of Ardashir II (379-383) Author(s): OVERLAET, Bruno Journal: Iranica Antiqua Volume: 47 Date: 2012 Pages: 133-151 DOI: 10.2143/IA.47.0.2141964 Abstract : The Taq-i Bustan I relief depicts Ardashir II (379-383 A.D.) receiving a beribboned ring from a person who is generally identified as either Ahura Mazda or as Shapur II. In the present note, it is suggested that the image is, however, a deliberate mixture of both personalities, created after the death of Shapur II. The relief postdates the smaller iwan with the depiction of both Ardashir II and Shapur II dressed as kings. |
